Part of the skill of cooking pork ribs (or beef rib, short rib, spare rib) is to create a menu or at least a picture in your mind of what else you are planning to cook with your half slab. Will you have fries, chicken wings, ground beef hamburgers. Or will you have a salad or a side of green beans?

How To Keep Ribs Warm When BBQing or Cooking For Big or Large Groups

If you’ve ever tried to BBQ ribs or meat for a crowd or large gathering, you may notice that it can be hard to be successful. This is true if your BBQ or grill is not big enough to cook all the ribs at once. Fortunately, you can keep the cooked ribs nice and warm as you BBQ or grill the next ribs or steak

Start by filling a well-insulated cooler with hot water. Shut the lid and let it warm up for 20 minutes.

Next, tip out the water, Next put a clean towel to the bottom of the warmed-up cooler. Put a tin or aluminum container or tray onto the top of the warm towel.

When the ribs are complete, place them in wrapped foil and put them in the aluminum tray. Place an additional towel on top of your meat or ribs. Now shut or close the top of the cooler. Keep it shut till you’re ready to serve.

For the best results, don’t let the ribs stay in the cooler for more than an hour. It is good to use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature of the meat on the ribs.

How To Make Perfect Ribs – Use a Great Barbecue Sauce

The flavor of the ribs comes from brushing them with barbecue sauce for a true BBQ rib result. You do this when basting them and just before serving.

I make my own homemade barbecue sauce it is easy and delicious – see our recipe above for pork spare ribs and it includes an amazing ketchup-based bourbon BBQ sauce.

However, your favorite store-bought barbecue sauce will be great and there are some really good ones out there now.

Thanksgiving and 4th of July Rubbed Barbecue Pork Back Ribs

Every year we have a tradition for this big family gathering,  this will be our fourth year barbecuing pork back ribs for our Fourth of July dinner and the whole extended family loves it.

Pork back ribs are my favorite because if cooked right they are pull-apart tender.

See this really simple way.

I make a rib rub with some spices and cayenne pepper and brown sugar, kosher salt. By rubbing all over but especially on the meaty side of the ribs then letting them sit in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour – longer is better, they absorb the flavors of the rub and when you baste them with barbecue sauce they end up amazing.
