Here are seven steps to get you prepared for your big bacon and egg breakfast for a crowd

  1. How Many People, and are they all big breakfast eaters or are there some kids present who may just gorge on bacon and do not really care about eggs?
    1. If there are kids – go buy a loaf of white bread and make bacon sandwiches for them it is a lot easier than trying to get them to eat eggs and bacon together.
    2. They will grab the bacon sandwich and leave the adults to have a relaxing conversational morning.
  2. Will all the guests be eating breakfast at the same time?
    1. Or are some late risers or teenagers that will sleep in
  3. If the number of people is less than 10 or even 12 guests, then in my experience, you do not need to prepare in advance. Just get organized and you can make the egg and bacon breakfast as a group together in the morning. More on how to do this is below.
  4. Choose The Style of Bacon and Eggs You Are Making
    1. There are many factors – taste and preference being among the top – some people, for example, do not like poached eggs with bacon.
    2. However, certain styles of eggs lend themselves to being pre- prepared, which is helpful when feeding them to lots of folks.

  6. You and greater than 10-12 people really should consider precooking some component of the meal. I would suggest doing the bacon. See our method on how to cook and store bacon in advance.
    1. By pre cooking the bacon you can focus on getting the eggs made – and they will be nice and fresh.
    2. While you can precook eggs, I find that bacon is easier than eggs to make in advance and certainly it is more straightforward to reheat big amounts of bacon, plus if reheated correctly it can actually improve its texture and taste.
  7. Feeding bacon and eggs to greater than 20 people and you are really going to have to
    1. cook the bacon in advance
    2. choose a style of egg that can be cooked in advance,
    3. get help from at least one other family member or guest to help
    4. Purchase either an electric warmer or a Bain Marie. Both are quite inexpensive and if you entertain a lot, probably a good investment as they can be used for many things. Here is what I use.[create a no index equipment page / pages]
  8. My top tip is to keep it really simple when feeding a crowd, especially if you do not have much experience. Also, have a read of our article on the fundamentals of catering to a crowd.

What Are the Best Breads to Serve with Bacon and Eggs when Feeding a Big Group

Bread is one of those foods that everyone loves. Everyone has their favorite bread type. Some people like white bread, others like whole wheat bread, and still others like rye bread.

So, which bread type is the best? Well, it depends on what you’re serving with bacon. If you serve eggs benedict, then English muffins are kind of the best.

#1. White Bread

White bread is usually the most popular bread type. This bread is often used for bacon sandwiches.
It’s also the

  • easiest & quickest bread to toast up
  • most readily available
  • usually the cheapest and
  • kids love it.

So White bread is the winner for large servings of bacon and eggs.

#2. Whole Wheat  or Rye Bread

Whole wheat and Rye bread is another popular bread option. It’s typically baked in a oval shape, although square loaves are also available.

Why is Rye Bread Good For bacon and Eggs?

Because rye bread is made with rye flour, which gives it a nutty flavor. Rye bread pairs perfectly with bacon because it complements the smoky flavor of bacon.

This bread is higher in fiber than regular white bread, which makes it healthier. It’s also delicious and versatile.

#3. Brown Rice Bread

Brown rice bread is similar to whole wheat bread, except that it uses brown rice flour instead of whole wheat flour.
Because it contains no gluten, it’s perfect for people who suffer do not tolerate gluten.

#4. Multigrain Bread

Multigrain bread is made using multiple grains, such as oats, barley, buckwheat, millet, quinoa, amaranth, teff, cornmeal, sorghum, and flaxseed.
These grains give multigrain bread its unique texture and taste.

#5. Sourdough Bread

Sourdough bread is made using natural yeast.  As a result, sourdough bread tastes better than store-bought bread.  It is one of my favorites as I also love the crunch crust it brings to the dish. Sourdough bread also absorbs the bacon fat and any runny egg yolk (if you like that) yet still holds its shape.

#6. Cornbread

Cornbread is a Southern staple food. It’s traditionally served alongside fried chicken, pork chops, and ribs.
However, cornbread doesn’t have to be limited to these dishes. You can enjoy it with eggs and bacon it is delicious.

#7. Bagel

A bagel is a New York Jewish specialty. They are usually eaten for breakfast or brunch.
They are made from a special kind of dough called “bagel dough.” To make bagels, you first need to boil the bagel dough.

Bagels are great if you serving a takeout breakfast as they hold their shape well when wrapped.

#8. Pizza Crust

Pizza crust is a thin layer of bread and actually makes a really nice pairing with bacon ad eggs. You can bake it up in the oven.  It is also a change from the normal breads. You can also upsell your breakfast to the kids by saying “who wants bacon and egg pizza for breakfast”

#9. Biscuits

Biscuits are small, fluffy biscuits that are commonly served with gravy, soup, or stew. However, they actually bring out the intensity and smokiness of the bacon. They are really a winner every time I serve them.
