Get a big spoon and pour (bast) the hot butter over the top of the patties. This will add some really nice flavor and help with the Maillard reaction, or caramelization of the nicely browned Salisbury meat patties.

You can use ground turkey for a leaner hamburger patty.

An easy way to make the sauce for the Salisbury steak is to saute the minced onion and mushrooms and rather than going through the reduction process – you can add 1 tablespoon of onion gravy powder (or use an onion soup mix and 1/2 teaspoon of cornstarch) and some garlic powder and after it is nice and smooth pour it straight over the homemade ground beef steaks.

The cheapest and easiest mushroom types are the ordinary white button mushrooms. If you need more flavor try using swiss brown or Cremini mushrooms
