When cooking a large steak, there are many factors that go into determining how long it takes to reach a safe internal temp. 

  • For a 3 lb chuck roast cook for 65 minutes at 350 F
  • For a 4 lb chuck roast cook for 90  minutes at 350 F

Cooking a chuck roast takes anywhere from 90 minutes to 4 hours, depending on the thickness and weight of the meat. Cooking a chuck roast requires patience and attention to detail.

A few things to consider include the thickness of the meat, how well done you want it, and what type of cut you choose. To find out how long you should let your chuck roast cook, we ran some tests.

We began our experiment by cutting off a 1-inch thick piece of the fat a 5-pound New York of Yankee Chuck Pot roast, which resulted in a 1 1/2-inch thick slice. We placed the steak in a baking dish and cooked it for 60 minutes at 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

After half an hour, we removed the oven rack and turned the oven down to 325 degrees Fahrenheit. At each time interval, we measured the temperature of the steak with a digital probe thermometer.

After 90 minutes, the internal temperature was 175 F m but to make it extra tender, we cooked it for a further 30 minutes.

Based on these results, we determined that a 2-inch thick chuck roast cooks for approximately 25 minutes per pound at a temperature of 350 degrees Fahrenheit. This means that a 4-pound chuck roast would require about one hour and 20 minutes to reach a safe internal temperature and a little longer to become really tender.

These are all tough cuts, packed with tough, soon-to-be tender connective tissue and tasty fat. They’re great for making braised dishes.

A 7-Blade Roast. Often known as “blade roast or ‘center cut beef.’

Brisket. It comes from the lower chest section, on top of the shank (the leg bone), where it has lots of collagen and connective tissues which keep it really juicy when it cooks.

My top pick would be bone-in chuck roast (also known as “chuck shoulder”), which has been worked to remove some of the excess fat and connective meat tissue and is usually easier to cook through than bone-in chuck steak.

You can sometimes find bone-in chuck shoulder at specialty stores, but they’re not easy to come by.  If you can not find a bone in, a normal chuck roast works great also.

Slow cooking is best done using low heat and long periods of time. It allows the collagen in the connective tissues to turn into gelatins, which absorb twice their own weight in liquid. This makes the meat both tender and juicier than if cooked at high temperatures for short amounts of time.

1. Choose the Right Size

Yorkshire pudding is a traditional English dish consisting of batter fried in oil until puffed up and cooked. Yorkshire pudding is traditionally served with meat dishes, but it can also be eaten on its own.

In fact, I’ve been making it since I was little. My mom used to make it when we had guests over. She’d bake it in muffin tins and serve it with gravy. We called it “pudding.”

Mac and Cheese is one of those dishes that everyone loves. But it’s actually quite simple to make.

This recipe combines two of my favorite foods into one meal. Macaroni pasta and tender beef chunk then eaten together to create a cheesy sauce that coats the noodles perfectly, while juicy beef chunks add texture and flavor.
