What Size Turkey Should you Buy?

So, now that you know how big your turkey needs to be, let’s talk about what to do once you bring home your turkey. Here are a few tips to help ensure that your turkey stays moist during the holidays:

1. Make sure your turkey is properly thawed. Thawing a frozen turkey takes longer than defrosting one that was stored in the refrigerator. To make sure your turkey is ready to go, check the temperature gauge on the side of the package. Ideally, the internal temperature should be 165 degrees Fahrenheit. If it isn’t, put the turkey back in the freezer for another hour or two.

2. Remove the giblets. Giblets include the liver, heart, kidneys, and neck. They’re located near the cavity where the legs used to be. Simply pull out the innards, rinse them under cold water, and discard.
