How To Tell If Sausage Is Cooked

Cooking Instructions for sausages and sausage links do not provide the detail you need to tell you if the sausage is cooked, or even how to know if sausage is cooked or safe to eat.

A Pork Sausage or Smoked Sausage is a great way to add flavor to your meals! It can be used in many different ways: as an appetizer or snack; added to salads, soups, stews, casseroles, sandwiches, wraps, pasta dishes, pizza toppings, etc.; served with eggs, potatoes, rice, beans, cornbread, biscuits, rolls, muffins, pancakes, waffles, bread.

What Temperature Should a Cooked Sausage Be?

The safe internal temperature for a cooked sausage is 160 F. At that stage of the cooking take them off the heat and let them rest for 5 minutes, as they will continue cooking and keep all their moisture.

If your internal temperature is a lot greater than 160F then the fat on the inside of the sausage will drip leaving you with a dry sausage that just does not taste as good.

The best way to avoid this problem is by cooking at lower temperatures for a longer time. You can increase the heat in the final minutes to give that nice golden color sausages are famous for.
