Equipment

  • 1 dehydrator or oven

Ingredients

  • 1 lb lean beef (such as top round or flank steak)
  • ¼ cup Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tbsp Soy Sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • 1 tbsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar

Instructions

  • Make The Marinade
A basic marinade will include Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, liquid smoke, (optional) garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and brown sugar. Let the beef soak in the marinade for at least 4 or 24 hours for a more intense flavor.
  • Marinate the Beef
Cut into bite-sized pieces using a sharp knife
  • Then marinate the jerky strips in a mixture of seasonings and liquids in a bowl or glass container.
  • Pound the Beef
pound the beef strips covered with two pieces of plastic wrap so they are as flat and uniform in thickness as possible.
This will ensure even dehydration during the next step.
  • Dehydrate the Beef
The common way to do this is in a food dehydrator. Arrange the marinated strips of jerky on the dehydrator trays and set the temperature to 155°F (68°C).
Dehydrate for 4-6 hours or until the beef reaches your desired level of dryness.
If you don’t have a dehydrator, you can also dry the jerky in your oven. Set it to the lowest temperature setting and prop open the door with a wooden spoon. Check on your jerky every few hours until done.
