For light meals, use an average serving of raspberries of about half a cup per guest.

If you are serving them at a buffet, you should serve at least 3/4 cup of raspberries per guest.

I calculated this and found that for a crowd of ten people you will roughly need one pound of raspberries. For a crowd of 25 people, you may need about three pounds of raspberries.

And up to 100 guests will require about ten pounds of raspberries.

Raspberry Catering Considerations

Raspberries are delicious. But, the truth is that they are not everyone’s cup of tea. Who will be attending the event? Are they mostly children, adults, or the elderly?

Will there be guests who have diabetes that are unable to eat sweet fruits? How popular will this fruit dish be at the event? And lastly, how many guests are you expecting to serve?

These are all things that need to be considered before making any calculations. For a children’s event, chances are that the raspberries may not be as popular as the ice cream section.

While if there are more elderly people, you may have some guests going back for a second helping.

Ideally, you want to have one serving size per guest. Twenty raspberries is roughly calculated to one cup per person.

Raspberry Serving Methods

Another important point is how you will serve the raspberries. Are they to be part of a fruit platter or served in a bowl from which guests can help themselves?

Or will you portion the raspberries and serve them in miniature cups that guests can collect on the buffet table?

In addition, will you be serving the raspberries in a large bowl? You should consider keeping the raspberries cool. Especially during the summer months.

I’ve found and used a trick for years now. I take a large container that I will set on the buffet table or serving table. Then I proceed to fill the container with ice.

You will be putting fruit and salad bowls in the container.

Mark the bowl by pressing it into the ice until it makes an indent. Generously sprinkle coarse salt over the ice. This will keep the ice from melting.

When you are ready to serve your raspberries, place the bowl inside the indent of the ice that you made earlier. It will keep the raspberries cool for longer.

If you are serving the raspberries in small cups, then simply place the cups onto the ice and replenish them as needed.

Replenishment of Raspberries – Seconds or Thirds

The last thing you want is for a food item you are serving to run out before all the guests have been served. How many extra servings should you have on hand for a large crowd?

Again, this depends on the crowd you are serving and the event at which the raspberries will be served.

For children’s events, I would stick to a half cup per guest. If you know the raspberries will be a hit, have a few extra on hand.

I usually have at least one extra serving for every five guests who will be attending the event. However, this is only if the dish is very popular, and takes into account any other fruit that will be served.

If you are serving other fruit as well, stick to one potion per guest. Calculate at least 3/4 of a cup per guest in such a case.
